LIKE AN ILL-FITTING GARMENT

On November 25, La Nación published the news that Gente, the well-known magazine, had chosen First Lady Fabiola Yañez as one of the 91 most prominent personalities of the year 2022, but to my mind, she is not the right recipient of such an honour. In general public opinion , she is still the heartless member of the current administration who organised parties at the presidential residence during the coronavirus lockdown that her husband said nobody should dare break.

The celebrities chosen by Gente are known to lead very glamorous lives and Fabiola resembles them as it has transpired her lifestyle is also lavish. The only difference is that, while those in the limelight pay for their luxuries, it is us, the tax-payers, that cover the cost of Fabiola’s extravagances. Her disrepute came to a head on July 14, 2021, when, on turning 40, she uploaded a photo of her together with an imposing bunch of white roses just when Argentina surpassed the grim milestone of 100.000 coronavirus deaths.

“Why do you dress me in borrowed clothes?” says Shakespeare’s Macbeth when he receives a title he believes is wrongly bestowed on him. The same should be true about Fabiola. The award is like an ill-fitting garment that should make her uncomfortable.
